HOW IT WORKS

Very cold, very dry air. For a few minutes.

Whole-body cryotherapy puts a guest in a cabin of extremely cold air for a short, supervised session. Here’s how an electric chamber makes that cold, and how a session runs.

MAKING THE COLD

Refrigeration,
in stages.

A single refrigeration circuit can only go so cold, so electric chambers chain stages together. Each stage cools the next, until the cabin air is far colder than any household freezer.

The heat taken out of the cabin has to go somewhere. An air-cooled chamber such as Frost releases it into the room, so plan ventilation or cooling. A water-cooled chamber carries it away through a water connection instead.

THE SESSION, STEP BY STEP

From screening
to warm-up.

A general walkthrough. Your own operating procedures and the manufacturer’s instructions set the details.

Safety and contraindications
  1. Screen the guest

Before a first session, staff check the guest against your screening questions and contraindications, and confirm they are comfortable in an enclosed space.

  2. Bring the chamber to temperature

The chamber is cooled before guests arrive. Frost reaches −40 °C in about 30 minutes, according to the manufacturer.

  3. Dress for the cold

Skin and clothing must be completely dry. Guests take off jewelry and wear gloves, socks and closed footwear, plus ear protection if your procedures call for it.

  4. A few minutes inside

The guest steps in and stands in cold, dry air while a trained operator watches the whole session. Frost sessions are set from one to five minutes.

  5. Step out and warm up

The guest steps out and warms up at room temperature. Record the session and anything you noticed.

WHAT SETS IT APART

Cold air,
not cold water.

01

Dry, not wet

There is no ice or water involved, so guests stay dry. No towels, no wet hair.

02

Whole body, head included

A walk-in cabin surrounds the whole body. In a head-out cryosauna, the head stays in room air.

03

No nitrogen on site

Electric chambers make their own cold, so there are no tanks, deliveries or vented vapour to manage.
